Volunteers Make a Difference!

In honor of National Volunteer Week, April 21-27, we've asked one of our many devoted volunteers who do so much to enrich the lives of Friendly Home Members, to write this blog. Thank you to volunteer Gretchen Dewan for writing this post, as well as our very special visitors Jasper and Erika!

Senior Housing: What Are Your Options?

In today’s Senior Living industry there are so many different housing and services options, knowing which community is right for you or a loved one can be very confusing.  There are a few key questions to consider about what is important to you in your new home, such as what amenities do you want and what supportive services do you need?  If you require skilled nursing services provided by a nursing home, there are many choices offered in our area. If you do not require skilled nursing care, a senior living community is one of your best options.

Celebrate National Nutrition Month!

Did you know that March is National Nutrition Month? Created by the American Dietetic Association, the event is dedicated to bringing attention to various aspects of nutrition, including the importance of making informed food choices as well as developing and maintaining good eating and exercise habits. National Nutrition Month was first observed as a week long event in March 1973 and then became a month long celebration in 1980 due to increasing public interest in nutrition.

Home Is Where Your Heart Is!

Home is where the heart is.  Why is this saying so true?  Your home is the main character in your story of life within which you raised your children and shared the experiences of life with your spouse.  Home is where years of memories are kept safe.  From the minute you walk through the door each day you find comfort in your home and feel safe and secure there.  But does your home, full of these wonderful memories, possess hidden dangers that could increase your risk of falls?

Here are some simple tips that can keep you safe in your home:

Controlling the Cost of Medicare

Turn on the national evening news any day of the week and you are guaranteed to see at least one story about the Medicare system.  With people living longer and the price of health care increasing, insurers are looking at new and creative ways to control costs.

Our People: Our Most Important Asset

Human Resources is not just about payroll, policies, procedures, and benefits.

Let It Snow!

As a new year begins, the seemingly simple act of building a snowman was a timely reminder of some powerful life lessons:

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Or in this case, when a Rochester winter storm drops a foot of snow on the ground, make a snowman! Brandon, a Friendly Home recreation specialist who works in our Memory Care Center, bundled up on a recent cold and snowy day. As our Members watched from the cozy comfort of indoors, Brandon began building a snowman in the courtyard.

Happy Holidays!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Throughout the Friendly Senior Living continuum, the season is indeed festive and bright. At The Friendly Home, December is full of celebrations, including holiday parties with Members and their loved ones, a cookie exchange featuring Members’ favorite recipes, a trip around town to see the holiday lights, worship services, and music - lots of music! - from visiting carolers of all ages to the Silvertones Flute Choir.

I am pleased to welcome you to the all-new Friendly Senior Living website! We are pleased to introduce this new site which so beautifully ties together the communities and services that make up the Friendly Senior Living continuum. Each site highlights the unique personality, features, amenities and services our communities offer, yet the connections among them are strong and clear. The Friendly Senior Living continuum seeks to provide Rochester area seniors with a variety of living options that best meet their needs – both now and in the future.
