Pay by Cash, Check or Credit Card

The Friendly Home is pleased to accept cash gifts, which are usually in the form of a check or a credit card transaction. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. Gifts of cash may be deducted from taxable income; please discuss your gift with your financial planner.

Make check payable and mail your gift to:

Pledges

Donors may wish to make a multi-year pledge in support of a specific program. A pledge enables you to consider a larger investment with payments extended over months or years. Reminder notices will be sent at regular intervals as requested. Pledges are tax-deductible only as payments are received; again, please consult with your financial planner to determine deduction amount from taxable income.

Stocks/Securities

Giving appreciated assets that have been held for more than 12 months may offer you significant tax advantages. The long-term capital gains tax is eliminated, and you may be entitled to a deduction equal to the fair market value of the securities. Because of capital gains considerations, it may be more beneficial to contribute appreciated securities than to sell them and donate the proceeds. Donation of depreciated securities or closely held stock require special considerations. Please consult your tax attorney or financial advisor for guidance.

United Way

You may choose to designate the Friendly Home as the recipient of your United Way donation. The Home's donor option number is #1615. Your United Way Donor Designate gift will enrich the lives of our Members in countless ways as we strive to satisfy their needs on all levels—physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual.

Gift Annuities

When you make a charitable gift to the Friendly Home’s Annuity Program, everyone wins! A charitable gift annuity is an excellent estate planning tool, providing you with a steady stream of income, a portion of which may be tax deductible. This generous approach to enhancing the lives of our Members is easy to establish and financially beneficial to the donor.

It works like this: The annuitant gives cash or marketable securities to the Friendly Home and, in return, receives fixed quarterly payments based on an attractive annuity rate, a portion of which may be treated as a tax-free return of principal. In addition, the annuitant receives a charitable income tax deduction at the time of the initial gift, and may avoid a portion of the tax on capital gains when the gift is one of appreciated securities.

Bequests/Wills

The simplest and most common form of planned giving is a provision in your will or living trust for a gift to the Friendly Home. Your gift can be designated for a special cause or program, or for the general fund. A bequest in your will is deductible from federal estate taxes, making this an advantageous choice for your heirs.

Gifts in Kind

These are gifts of property other than cash (i.e., checks and credit card payments) and marketable securities. Gifts-in-kind include gifts of services, supplies, equipment, books, artwork, etc., that are of value to the Home. To assure compliance with regulation, all in-kind gifts must be proposed in advance to the Vice President of Development.
